I would have thought by time I hit 21, I'd be 'over' acne. Acne only affects 'Tweens' and teenagers, I thought.
Yet, here I sit at 35, dealing with what seems to be weekly breakouts. I suppose I can attribute this to the fact that I just have overly-oily skin and I'll have to deal with it for the rest of my life, but that's not it. It's part of CP and the fact that I have TERRIBLE saliva control.
Usually, I use St. Ives' medicated Apricot Scrub (or the store brand equivalent) to combat this problem, and it's the only thing that seems to keep the breakouts at bay.
With St. Ives being 100% natural and only having three ingredients, but still gets the job done, I was excited to get this 'All Natural' facial cleanser kit.
^^what I received.^^
From the Bioque website...
This purifying facial wash is the ultimate cleanser for all skin types, and the first step to great-looking skin. Ideal for travel and for those on the go.
Features & Benefits:
• This cleanser contains no harsh chemicals (like sodium laurel or laureth sulfates) which strip and damage the outer skin barrier.
• Gentle cleansing agents derived from amino acids and yucca extracts not only clean but gently exfoliate and purify your facial skin.
• Vitamins A, B3, C, and E are deposited for maximum benefit.
• Cleans and tones, eliminating the need for additional toners.
Sounds all good. It doesn't contain any chemicals, just like St. Ives... Touts itself at being All Natural, just like St. Ives... It should work JUST as well as St. Ives.
Truth be told, it doesn't. Not for me.
I received my kit around October 27th. This was my 'Before' photo.
^^Excuse the lighting and the dirtyish mirror... our bathroom lighting fixtures are awful and I just cannot keep that sucker clean.^^
You can tell from the red circle that I had started to break out again. I purposely stopped using St. Ives once I knew this was coming so I could have a more 'controlled' test. I wanted to get the most UNBIAS and ACCURATE results, making sure the St. Ives was in no way a factor.
I followed the cleanser instructions to the letter, wanting to achieve the optimal results. I used it for a week, finally stopping on the night of November 1st, out of sheer pain. My chin was RAW, inflamed and I seemed to have MORE whiteheads than normal, one becoming extremely huge!
^^REALLY BAD FRONT FACING SELFIE.^^
I was going to bed in near tears, thanks to the pain this cleanser caused. The skin around my chin was chafed, blistering red in color and felt tight and hot to the touch. My skin actually felt weather-burned from the cleanser! I tried using different 'soothing' skin lotions on the area (Shea Butter lotion, Aloe Vera lotion, Vaseline) and nothing seemed to ease the tightness, chafing and redness.
^^24 hours after discontinuing cleanser use^^
This shot was taken approximately 24 hours after the last washing with the cleanser. I used just PLAIN hot water and a soft washcloth to wash any oil and dirt from my face. A lot of the redness had faded, only being red around the pimples. The large whitehead had also popped from the hot water & washcloth combo.
Because of the pain I experienced from the cleanser alone, I did NOT even try the Refinisher. I was scared to. I did not want to subject myself to any more pain.
Now, to be fair, I could have just had an allergic reaction to the cleanser. I don't see why CP would affect my skin pH and chemistry, but I have a similar reaction if I use the 70% Rubbing Isopropyl Alcohol on my face. Just because I had this reaction, doesn't mean your face will react the same way. This COULD be the product that works wonders for you.
That being said, if you'd like to try it, Bioque is giving away a set of the Facial Cleanser and the refinisher.
As for the disability factor, if you have the dexterity to squeeze a tube and wash your face in a circular motion, you can use this. There won't be any special limitations or adaptations using this product.
Only thing I REALLY liked about this was the light citrus scent it had. Otherwise, it didn't work for me as promised.
WOULD RECOMMEND: Sadly, No.
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com.
