ADMIN POST -- Possible Changes...

Disabled Diva Reviews may be changing names!

Last night, as I'm drifting to sleep, I was thinking of getting a different domain, simply for the fact I sometimes wonder if my current domain is restrictive. If figures though... just renewed the domain and NOW I think of the perfect site name!!! And all the social networking sites are available with the name!!!

I'm not worried about retagging photos OR reuploading videos. Upon doing research, I can just change my youtube channel name to the new domain name, and I can just make a more 'tamper-proof' watermark and retag the photos with this new site. Yes, it's more work for me, but it will keep me busy for a while.

I like my current domain, but I just feel like disableddivareviews.com is restricting me from branching out and doing MORE topics, like comparison guides or 'Life with CP' Hacks... even trying disabled DIY things.

I also feel like it's resticting me since I can't tell how a person with High-Functioning Autism, Multiple Sclerosis or Meniere's Disease will be able to use an item... I can only tell how a person with functioning CP will use the item.

Things are NOT set into stone, but I just wanted to give a heads up that the posts may be slow for the next few weeks around here.

Drinkkler Smart Tea Infuser

Smart Tea Infuser

I am mainly a coffee drinker, but I did receive a bag of loose tea this past Christmas from an online friend. I wanted to try it, but I had NO way to make it. I didn't DARE try to put it through our Keurig machine... and I didn't feel like messing with emptying a commercial tea bag to refill it with the loose tea.

Enter the Smart Tea Infuser from Drinkkler™.

We took the old tea strainers, kept the positives and reinvented how tea infusers should work. We thought about the whole process of tea brewing, and wanted to design a tea infuser to allow you to enjoy more of the tea and less of the "inconveniences."

With the Smart Tea Infuser, you get…

We enlarged the drip tray to make it function as a mug lid. Now you can keep your tea hot!

The Smart Tea Infuser has diffusing holes that are small enough to retain the tea leaves in the infuser and allows ample water to flow into the infuser to brew a flavourful cup of tea.

The handle is made of high grade silicon making it always cool to touch despite being placed in hot tea. In addition, there is a clip at the end of the handle which can be used to secure the infuser to the edge of the cup.

^^Item still in package^^

^^Back of the cardboard^^

This is how it should be used...

Let me just cut to the point... It works. That's the MAIN point. It does 'brew' the tea without leaving any tea leaves in the cup.

However, disabled people are going to have a VERY difficult time opening this. I figured since the top of the strainer was silicone rubber, it would bend and pop open easy. It doesn't... which isn't a bad premise, since it locks the tea into the infuser. However, a disabled person will not be able to open this by themselves.

One suggestion I will make is to use an actual teacup with these. I used a thick coffee mug with this, and the clip-like handle would not sit on the side of the mug.

The Drinkkler Smart Tea Infuser is available from Amazon for $10.95.

The Drinkkler Smart Tea Infuser works as it should, but if your disability is with your hands, you will need help.
WOULD RECOMMEND: Yes, if you are able-bodied.

Grainful Meal Entrees

Grainful Meal Entrees

I love oats. I love oatmeal, oat breads, oat cereals... but never have I thought of eating oats for dinner... especially by combining other vegetables and meats with oats.

But that's exactly what Grainful has done.
Bringing you the goodness of oats for dinner.

At Grainful, we believe in great food. It’s that simple. Our chef-crafted recipes are inspired by bold flavors from around the globe. Each entrée is made with 100% whole grain steel cut oats, lovingly prepared in individual kettle batches with a mouthwatering blend of all natural ingredients. Now you can enjoy the all health benefits of oats during lunch and dinner!

I was provided with 4 entrees to try and review... Vegetarian Chili, Unstuffed Pepper, Porcini Mushroom Chicken and Andouille Sausage. All these entrees were made with oats in the place of rice or pasta.

^^what I received -- sorry for the blurriness, I suck at photos.^^

I really enjoyed the entrees I have tried. I have one more entree to try. I'm saving it for another cold day. So, let's look at the three entrees I have tried.

A playful twist on the stuffed pepper, our Unstuffed Pepper is inspired by the zesty flavors of the South West. We combined fresh red bell peppers, bold spices and all natural ground turkey meat with the rich texture of our signature 100% whole grain steel cut oats. You’ll love the light kick in this delicious and hearty dish.

This was SO good. It was like I was eating a chopped up stuffed pepper. They were plenty of vegetables and spices to appeal to my tastebuds. The ground turkey tasted JUST like ground beef. This was my 2nd favorite entree and if I hadn't known this was made with oats, I wouldn't have been able to tell by taste. The 'spiciness' level is 2 peppers, but I didn't find it to be all that spicy.

Vegetarian Chili is our take on the classic American staple. Smoky chipotle peppers bring out fiery flavors and are combined with bold chili spices, vegetables, quinoa and three types of beans. All served over our signature 100% whole grain steel cut oats and topped with sharp cheddar cheese. Our chili will keep you warm – even if it’s cold outside!

This was my first time having quinoa... and I can't say I'm a huge fan of quinoa. I just don't like the taste of it. Other than the quinoa, I liked this. It's VERY spicy. Not only does it have your typical beans and bell peppers, it has Chipotle peppers in adobo sauce and two different types of chili powders. If you don't like spicy foods, you may want to steer clear of this one.

Our Porcini Mushroom Chicken was inspired by the rich flavors and cooking techniques of Tuscan cuisine. We slowly simmered delicious porcini mushrooms, Italian herbs and tender white chicken meat with our signature 100% whole grain steel cut oats to create an irresistibly creamy risotto-style entrée. Wholesome comfort food at its best!

I love chicken... absolutely LOVE it. I could eat it daily if I was allowed. This was my favorite entree of the ones I have tried. The flavors meld well together, and the mushrooms were very tender. There is no spiciness to this dish, so if you don't like spicy food, this entree is right up your alley.

Our Andouille Sausage & Oats was inspired by Louisiana’s vibrant Creole cuisine. We combined the bold flavors of traditional Jambalaya with the rich texture of our signature 100% whole grain steel cut oats. We love this hearty, wholesome dish and can’t wait for you to try it!

I haven't actually tried this, simply for the fact that it's 'spiciness' level is 4 peppers, and I can handle spiciness to a certain level. I don't like hot cherry peppers, so I'm not entirely sure I will be able to eat this. I HAVE ate Zatarain's™ Jambalaya as a teenager, and I didn't find it overly spicy, so if the spice level is on par with that, I'll be able to handle it fine. Judging by the photo on the outer box, it DOES look good and I'm looking forward to trying this entree soon.

I really don't see disabled people having ANY issues with these entrees. They are made with all natural ingredients. There are NO added preservatives in any of the entrees. With the exception of the word 'Pecorino,' I can easily pronounce EVERY ingredient in these. The spiciness may trigger some people's stomach issues, but the major problem disabled people may have is opening the packaging.

Right now, Grainful entrees are only available in the Northeastern part of the United States, mainly found at Wegman's™ stores and health/whole food stores. You can go to Grainful.com for more info and to find a store near you.

I thoroughly enjoyed the meals I have tried. I'm looking forward to buying more of these when I get to our local Wegman's™ again.

A HUGE thank you to Emily Eisenhut and the family at Grainful for allowing me to do a review for them.

INFLUENSTER -- Frosty VoxBox

Influenster Frosty VoxBox

It's that time of year again, The snow is falling, the nights are long, the children have more snow days than school days... what a better way to warm up than with the Frosty VoxBox from Influenster?

This is my 3rd physical voxbox from Influenster and, to be quite honest, the quality of the content of each box is going down.

Anyway, Let's take a look at what is inside...

-ecotools Full Volume styler brush
-Fruit Vines Bites in Strawberry
-Celestial Seasonings Green tea in Candy Cane Lane
-NYC Expert Last Lip Color in Sugar Plum
-Rimmel Scandeleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner
-Rimmel Gentle Eye Makeup Remover
-McCormick Gourmet Thyme
-No.7 Protect & Perfect Intense Anti-Aging Serum

Let's have a look at each product...

From the back of the cardboard backing:
Ideal for MEDIUM-LONG hair

FULL VOLUME STYLER creates gorgeous volume and style, while crulety-free bristles distribute hair's moisturizers for the ultimate shine.

• EcoVent™ design dries hair 20% faster* for less heat damage.
*Tested versus a leading brush
• Distributes hair's moisturizers for the ultimate shine
• Frizz and static-fighting design
• Ultra-lightweight for comfort styling
• Nurtures hair + scalp
• Natural bamboo handle

Now, in the pre-qualifying survey for this voxbox, I said I had THICK, curly hair. Why the company would send this type of brush is beyond me. It's designed more for those that want to need to add volume to their hair. My hair HAS enough volume normally.
I did try this brush a few times, but it was nearly impossible to get through my hair. It took me 15 minutes to brush my hair and even then, I wasn't completely snarl free. I ended up giving this brush to Mama Melissa, who has fine hair.

Fruit Vines® Bites are a new, soft, chewy fruit candy, from the Red Vines® family, available in two fruit flavors – strawberry and chery. Low fat and made with no preservatives, Fruit Vines® Bites are available in three sizes; a 2oz. Single serve, a 5oz hanging bag and a 10oz resealable stand-up bag and can be found at Walmart in the West, Kroger Family of stores, Walgreens, Target, Safeway and Rite Aid.

These were the best item in the box. I received the 5oz hanging bag size. Mama Melissa and I promptly opened these. They reminded me of thicker Twizzler pieces. They were very chewy and full of strawberry flavor. I'd love to get more of these, but I don't go to the stores in my area that sell them (although, I do seem to recall seeing the 5oz bags at our local Family Dollar).

Live life well this holiday season with Celestial Seasonings® and take a stroll down Candy Cane Lane®! It's made with the very finest green tea leaves, peppermint and other botanicals, because at Celestial Seasonings, we know you are what you steep.

This was my 2nd favorite thing in the box. I've drank green tea before and this honestly did not taste like green tea. It looked and tasted like black tea with peppermint flavor. I added milk and sugar to mine and it seriously tasted like I dropped a Starlight disc in a cup of tea.

Ready to take your lips to the next level? Try our NEW Expert Last Llip Color in twenty tantalizing shades. Get intense, amplified color and shine that last up to six hours! Our moisturizing formula glides on easily for a silky, smooth, velvety finish for all day wear.

I usually don't wear lipstick/lip color, simply because with my disability, it wears off very quickly. If I do use lip products, it's either lip balm or lip stain; something that will stay.

I was very impressed with the NYC lip color, because it DOES stay on my lips, even with my poor saliva control. I put this on in the morning and immediately had a cup of coffee. I did not have the dreaded 'lipstick stain' on the rim.

Only thing I did not like with the lipstick was the color. It was a brownish color and it really did not show on my lips.

^^lipstick applied^^

Gives instant colour impact with its high intensity pigments. The ultra-smooth and creamy formula glides on easily.

I did not try this; I am not steady enough to use eyeliners. I gave this to my cousin.

Gently removes all eye makeup, including long-lasting and waterproof makeup, with no oily residue.

I did not try this; I do not use eye makeup enough to need this. I also gave this to my cousin.

The freshest flavors deserve a fresh new look! McCormick Gourmet Thyme imparts a light minty flavor that is distinctively warm and aromatic. McCormick Gourmet Thyme can be used throughout the day in dished such as breakfast casseroles, hearty soups, stews, stuffing and oven-roasted chicken.

The day I got this VoxBox, my adoptive grandfather was making his Christmas dressing. I promptly handed this to him and he used in generously into the dressing mixture. It gave it a REALLY nice scent while baking and the taste was even MORE delicious.

This clinically proven serum is even more effective at reducing the appearance of fine lines for younger looking skin in just two weeks.

I did not try this either. I am not worried about aging skin. I am 35 and still dealing with moderate to severe acne. I'd rather worry about getting my acne under control over worrying about fine lines. I also felt it wasn't worth my time to try, since the description says the product will take two WEEKS to show and the sample I received was MAYBE two days' worth. I wouldn't have seen any results.

I really was not impressed with this VoxBox. The only things that were decent to me were the Fruit Vines® Bites and the Celestial Seasonings tea. I really could have gone without the other items.
WOULD RECOMMEND: The Influenster Brand, yes. This particular VoxBox, No.

La Pedi Bon Callus Remover

La Pedi Bon Callus Remover

• Callus Treatment and scrubber is portable and saves times and money.
• Foot Callus remover wet/dry innovative device is easy to clean and operate. It makes foot care easy.

• La Pédi Bon battery operated foot care tools are easy on the feet and comes with an extra roller, cleaning brush, complete instructions and cover for roller. Your complete satisfaction or money back guarantee.

Why use La Pédi Bon: Foot Callus Remover?
La Pédi Bon battery operated callus remover is a revolutionary safe device for getting smooth silky skin. It works by removing rough, dry callused skin. You don't have to leave your home. No appointment necessary.
What are the benefits of a Foot Callus Remover?
The patches of tough skin usually forms on the ball or heel of the foot, where the weight is placed. As we get older, the padding on the bottom gets thinner, causing calluses to develop more easily. Calluses are unsightly, uncomfortable, and unhealthy.
La Pédi Bon gently removes the callus, helping you to have healthy beautiful skin.
What makes this the best foot callus remover?
Our product is manufactured at a state of the art facility that is a leader in personal care technology. We personally use the product and can 100% recommend La Pédi Bon foot callus remover. We stand behind our foot callus remover with a money back guarantee if not completely satisfied.
Who benefits from a Foot Callus Remover?
87% of adults in the US have some type of foot problem and one of the most common problems is calluses. Calluses are rough dry patches that forms on the feet. Anyone with callused feet who want to have silky smooth healthy feet will love the La Pédi Bon callus remover. People who have medical issues that effects the health of their feet should consult their physicians prior to use.

Being disabled, my feet suffer a lot more abuse than most people. My big toes are pointed out instead of straight, like most able-bodied people's toes. This causes the tibial and fibular sesamoids of my feet (the 'ball' beneath the big toe) to protrude on the sides of my feet.

The roughness I get on these 'balls' can be buffed out with a foot file or a pumice stone, and a good slathering of body lotion afterwards.

However, Mama Melissa has very dry feet. Her heels become tough and they sometimes crack to the point where the dry skin will peel and her feet will bleed. This has happened NUMEROUS times. We've tried almost every cream and lotion imaginable and none seemed to help.

So, when I had the chance to review this, I JUMPED at it, figuring if we could remove all the current callused build-up, MAYBE we could keep the callused skin at bay with lotion from there on out.

Unfortunately, it didn't work out that way.

^^what I received^^

Despite the company's claims that it is easy on the foot, it is not. Mama Melissa used it on her feet and it made them raw and chafed even worse. It did not remove much of the callused skin without pulling and ripping.

I then tried the device on my hands, to see what it actually does to skin.

^^photos of my hands^^

If you run the device over your skin in the wrong direction, your skin ends up being 'rolled' into the callus remover, pinching it and giving it a 'rug burned' or 'wind burned' appearance. It also leaves an internal bruise.

In the above photo, it shows my right hand which is normal. The 'Left Hand' photo shows the sore skin from the callus remover. My left hand was sore for a week after the one use.

Disabled people won't have a problem holding the device. It doesn't vibrate strongly unless it's applied to skin, but the size of the device makes it easy to grip. However, the fact that it hurts when used isn't a good idea for those already in pain.

If this is something you'd like to try, you can purchase one from Amazon for $24.99.

While it does remove SOME callused skin, it is NOT as gentle as the company claims. I would suggest using the Pedi-Egg™ over this any day of the week.

Coosh 15W 3.1A Dual USB Charger Review

Coosh 15W 3.1A Dual USB Charger Review

Dual Port 15W / 3.1A(2.1A 1A) USB Wall Charger charges your iPad, iPhone, iPod, HTC, Blackberry, MP3 Players, Digital Cameras, PDAs, Mobile Phones.
Product is backed by a 1 year warranty!

I have a LOT of devices... I have my normal cell phone, a phone I use for all my gaming/media needs and my Kindle Fire HD. So charging can be a pain at times. I was to the point of letting one of the devices go nearly dead before charging, simply because I couldn't charge more than one device at a time.

This is where the Coosh Dual USB charger saved my sanity.

^^what I received^^

^^Inside the box^^

• Compact design
• Dual USB port
• Powerful 5V/2A adapter
• Overcharging, overloading and short circuit protection system

• Input: US AC 100-240V 50-60Hz
• Output: 5v/3.1A (MAX)
                USB1 5V/1A
                USB2 5V/2.1A
• Dimension: 56mm x 40mm x 20mm (2.2 in x 1.5 in x 0.9 in)
• weight: 83g (2.9 oz)

This charger is small and light, but quite powerful. I was able to quickly charge my two phones to 100% within 2 hours.

^^charger in use^^

The charger doesn't get overly hot, like a LOT of single USB chargers do. I like the size of the charger; it has a good feel in the hand and it's not slippery. I like the bright blue notification light, letting me know it's plugged in enough.

I don't see any MAJOR issues for disabled people when it comes to using this charger. As long as they can plug something in and then plug a USB connector in, then they will be able to use this charger.

You can get one for yourself from this link, but as of right now, Amazon is sold out. You can also get more info of Coosh's full line or products by visiting Coosh.com

This is a great charger to have if you have more than one USB device to charge.
