#BehindTheBlogger -- New Beginnings

#BehindTheBlogger -- New Beginnings

So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
–John Lennon, Happy Christmas (War is Over)

Welcome to 2017! It’s a time for new beginnings. Resolutions are made; many fail within the first month. Some make it to 3 months before they fail. And some actually DO stick with the resolution and are successful.

Me? I hardly ever make a New Year’s Resolution, and when I do, it’s NEVER health related. Why? Because I know myself… it’s not that I don’t care about my health and/or diet. I just don’t have the willpower to stick to it. I like my ‘junk food’ too much.

The LAST few times I made a ‘healthy’ resolution, I’ll admit I failed within the first week, although to be fair, one time was NOT my fault. I could not hack coffee without sugar (my fault) and Mama Melissa’s parents started complaining about the noise I was making when exercising, which was dancing.

So, what kind of resolutions do I make? Things I know I can physically and mentally handle.

In 1994, I made the resolution to start applying myself in school. With the exception of one class (US Cultures II) I did. I brought myself up to a B in all but the previously mentioned class, and I started to buckle down in Yearbook Journalism. That’s when I realized I loved writing, and when my intended major flipped from Education/Teaching to Print Journalism, which is strange, because I had a love-hate relationship with Public Speaking –  I hated actually starting it, but once I realized that the class/crowd DID understand me, I loved it. But I felt more at home with the Print side of things. Seeing my name as a byline was such a thrill for me.

Did I make any resolutions for2017? No, not really. I wouldn’t really call what I did make ‘resolutions.’ I’d call them ‘changes’ or ‘promises.’ As I said, I don’t have the willpower to stick to actual resolutions. Only reason I stuck to my resolution in 1994 was I had Mommy to keep after me to bring my grades up.

So, what ‘changes’ or ‘promises’ did I make for 2017?

~DEVOTE MORE TIME TO THE BLOG. I am SO far behind on reviews here, plus I want to branch out more and start writing about other things, like some DIY things. If I don’t devote more time to the blog, I won’t get them done.
~PUBLISH ANOTHER BOOK. I love to write. It relaxes me. I used to write WWE fanfiction (don’t judge) and really, the only difference between any fandom fanfiction and a normal book is the use of original characters. I have a good 50-75 ‘fanfictions’ on a flash drive that I want to change into original characters and publish as either short stories or one large short story anthology… I haven’t decided yet.
I also have many ideas in my head, and I want to write at least one of them this year.
~GO BACK TO SCHOOL/TAKE SOME COURSES. This is the iffy one, and if I fail at this one, so be it. It depends of if Governor Cuomo’s plan of free college tuition actually takes effect, or if it’s blocked somehow. If it does take effect, I plan on looking to see if there are any colleges that offer courses that I’m interested in online.

It’s hard to start something new. It takes time and perseverance. But all New Beginnings provide the opportunity to make something great happen.

Thank you for reading a story from #BehindTheBlogger Hop. Every 2 weeks a group of bloggers is given a writing prompt. These prompts are very open ended, so our bloggers can write about whatever they desire. The main rule is that their blog post directly relates to the topic of that week. The point of this hop is for our readers to get to know us on a personal level.

Please hop along and read all of the blog posts in this weeks hop. Just click the links below. If you want real and raw emotion, then you will find it here. After you read each post, please comment and share. We want to get to know you too!

  1. These sound like great changes. I hope you get a chance to go back to school and wish you lots of luck with your promises!

  2. These sound look good goals and I also hope to get working on my blog more. Good luck on the school, I know how hard it can be to go back but is something I have thought about also. You can do anything you put your mind to.

    1. That last sentence is a motto my mommy instilled in me at a very young age, and something I live by to this day.
I think her teaching me that is why I've accomplished what I have in my life! :-)
