Camp NaNoWriMo -- A Look Back

Camp NaNoWriMo -- A Look Back

What is Camp NaNoWrimo?
Camp NaNoWriMo is a virtual writer’s retreat, designed for maximum flexibility and creativity. We have Camp sessions in both April and July, and we welcome word-count goals between 30 and 1,000,000. In addition, writers can tackle any project they’d like, including new novel drafts, revision, poetry, scripts, and short stories.
For years, I've been saying I wanted to do ACTUAL NaNoWrimo, which is short for National Novel Writing Month. But I never get to do so; either I'm behind on reviews or other things in real life come up and I can't.

This year, however, a friend of mine, T Rea Harris, mentioned she was doing Camp NaNoWriMo and I was curious about it. I was shocked and excited to see I didn't HAVE to do a novel; I could do any time of writing I wanted. Seeing I was VERY behind on reviews, I decided to make my 'project' be blog posts.

I originally decided on a 60 post goal. I figured that was 2 posts a day... something I could handle. But then real life got in the way (along with an issue on LiveJournal that I STILL need to take care of and Verizon starting their issues again) and I ended up having to cut my goal in half to 30 posts.

And here it is, Day 29 and I'm still plugging away at it. However, THIS IS MY FINAL POST.

I did it.

Sure, I have to go back and edit a few posts, but that can be done whenever this weekend. I don't need to rush and HOPE I get done before April 30th at 11:59 PM. The original posts will stick.

That being said, This post completes my first Camp NaNoWriMo.

And what have I learned from Camp NaNoWriMo?

~A month flies by quicker than one thinks.
~I was further behind than I thought.
~I wasn't as prepared as I thought.
~My Mommy was right; I CAN do anything I put my mind to.

There is another Camp session in July. Depending on where I am with reviews, I may try doing a short story for July's session. If I'm still behind, I'll just do another project of Blog Posts.

I am actually HIGHLY considering doing the actual NaNoWriMo in November. That means The CP Chick more than likely will go on HIATUS for that month. I haven't decided yet if I will do it... 50,000 words seems like a goal I KNOW I wouldn't be able to achieve.

I hope my parents are up in heaven, smiling down with pride that I put my mind to a goal and I did it.

2017
CAMP NANOWRIMO
WINNER!!!

Chewy Blogger - March 2017

Chewy.com

ABOUT CHEWY.COM
We’re dog and cat lovers who want only the best-quality products for our pets. And we’re always on the go. That’s why we created Chewy.com: a specialty pet retailer stocking the very best brands under one roof, with fast delivery right to yours.

Consider us your neighborhood pet store, but better. We’re knowledgeable and always ready to answer your questions. But you won’t have to lug that fifty-pound bag of dog food to your car because we’ll deliver it right to your door.
March was our ninth month with Chewy, and there were SO MANY great choices this month, it was hard to choose what to review!

But I narrowed it down to these two products. Let's have a look at what we were sent!

^^what we received^^

Purina Beyond Cutlets White Meat Chicken Grain-Free Dog Treats
With Beyond White Meat Chicken Cutlets, you can share a moment of goodness with your dog, with a snack that's simply made and genuinely good. Purina's treat specialists use all-natural white meat chicken in every batch. For a natural, grain-free dog snack that offers both great taste and quality ingredients you can trust.

Key Benefits
~A snack that's simply made and genuinely good
~Purina's treat specialists use all-natural white meat chicken in every batch
~Natural, grain-free dog snack that offers both great taste and quality ingredients you can trust
~Chicken is the #1 ingredient
~No poultry by-product meal

As I've said before, Chase loves chicken (and turkey), so this was a no-brainer for me to choose for him. After seeing how much he liked the True Chewz Grillers in January, I was sure he'd like these. And I was right; He likes to hold in his front paws and take bites off of them. It's actually quite adorable to watch!
He actually came back wanting another one right after finishing the first one we gave him. Usually, Chase doesn't do that.
These were also the first bag of treats that didn't last a week... another uncommon thing for Chase!

Hill's Science Diet Jerky Snacks with Real Beef Dog Treats
Hill's Science Diet Jerky Snacks are delicious and nutritious, natural treats that will get your dog's tail wagging! Made with real beef to help build and maintain lean muscle, Jerky Snacks provide great taste and great nutrition in perfect harmony.

Key Benefits
~Real beef is the #1 ingredient, all natural formula
~Naturally preserved with no corn, artificial colors or flavors
~Helps build and maintain lean muscle
~Delicious, natural treats made from only the best ingredients
~Great taste & great nutrition in perfect harmony

Chase isn't crazy about beef normally. He will eat it now and then, but he likes his chicken and turkey better.
However, he does like these treats. He'll munch these right down and beg for more.
What I like about these treats is the facts that they are bite-size, so Chase can easily eat these without them needing to be broke up for him.

As with most treat bags, these both have the ‘Ziploc’ style seals, and if not lined up properly, may not seal tightly. This is the MAIN issue I see disabled people having with these bags. However, The plus side to ordering from chewy.com is they deliver right to your door. For someone disabled, who maybe doesn't drive or relies on public transportation, this is completely helpful.

Both the Purina Beyond Cutlets White Meat Chicken Grain-Free Dog Treats and the Hill's Science Diet Jerky Snacks with Real Beef Dog Treats are available at chewy.com. Please click the links above to see prices and other varieties.

FINAL THOUGHTS
Chase loves his goodies from Chewy.com! He gets so excited when the 'blue box' arrives each month!

Infinity Scarf

Infinity Scarf

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This scarf is a vegan alternative to cashmere while providing comparable comfort, style, and warmth.
It is an eye-catching versatile accessory with multi-colored woven patterns.
These elegant scarves are suitable for all occasions.
Perfect gift for women of all ages, great accessory to dress up any ensemble.
Chunky knit wide infinity scarf for style and warmth both indoors and out.
I hated scarves as a child. I always felt choked and they never seemed to stay around my neck, no matter what Mommy did.

And looking back, that's PROBABLY why I had strep throat at least once every winter.

Mommy finally gave up and started buying me coats that would zip over my chin, in an effort to keep my neck warm. But even those, I'd unzip so I could breathe. Kind of defeated Mommy's goal, huh?

As I got older and I moved farther and farther north, The need for a scarf became inevitable... especially after an errand run in March 2016. We left the house with cloudy but dry weather. Within an hour, we were having near blizzard conditions and when we got home, the vehicle became buried in the deep snow. Needless to say, I became VERY sick with an ear infection and cold.

After that, I asked Grandma to knit or crochet me a scarf, which she did... but the problem was it rolled into itself. It didn't keep my neck very warm, and it refused to stay 'flat.'

So, when I received this scarf for review, I was excited. I knew they were 'all the rage,' but could they actually have some function along with style? I was determined to find out.

^^what I received^^

I received the Hot Pink or Rose color variant for review.

What I really like about is it's all one piece, which makes it SO simple to slip over the head. It's also big enough that it CAN be doubled around the neck, which actually makes it warmer.

I haven't worn this as a 'fashion accessory' yet, opting to use it as my winter scarf.

I was able to put this on, double it and tuck it into my coat, and it stays put around my neck. No matter HOW much I move, it doesn't come untucked or untied.

The only downfall of this style is the tassels like to get caught into zippers. Many times that I wore this, I had to make sure the tassels were tucked well away from my coat's zipper, otherwise they would get caught in the teeth as I tried to zip my coat.

Only problem I see disabled people having with this scarf ARE the tassels. I think the non-tasseled variants of this scarf would be the best bet for disabled folks. These scarfs slip right over the head, so there is no tying and trying to keep it wrapped around the neck.

This is available from Amazon for $11.99. There are other colors available, both with and without tassels. The styles without tassels are $2.00 cheaper.

FINAL THOUGHTS
I think these scarfs are the BEST scarfs for disabled people to wear. Very easy to slip on and they keep the neck/throat area VERY warm.

Taiwan Treat Subscription Box

Taiwan Treat Subscription Box

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Taiwan Treat is a Taiwanese snack subscription service whose mission is to spread Taiwan culture, tradition, history, and most importantly -- food!-- worldwide, all in a convenient box.
Taiwan Treat delivers authentic Taiwanese snacks, candies, treats, chips, ramen noodles, coffees, and teas from Taiwan to your front door.
I love trying foreign foods. I've ate 'American' foods all my life, so it's interesting to see what foreign countries have for snacks.

I was very excited when Taiwan Treat agreed to send me a box for review. I received the Original Box, which contains at least 16 snacks. Let's see what I received.

^^What I received^^

A-sha Dry Noodles
Tasted just like 'American' ramen, but maybe a little spicier. This came with a sauce, and it made it a little messy to make, but I liked it.
TASTE: 8/10

Taiwan Fancy Black Teas
Lipton Black Tea from Taiwan. Seriously, I could not taste a difference between the Taiwanese Black Tea and American Black Tea. I used to drink a LOT of tea as a teenager and young adult, even taking an old soda bottle and putting warm tea in it to drink at school (I got there when the principal and office staff were just setting up for the day; I had plenty of time) I’m still a coffee girl, but this wasn’t bad at all.
TASTE: 9.5/10

Iron Eggs
I couldn't get past the smell of these... they smelled sour, if not rancid. Upon research, they should have smelled of soy sauce and spices, so I don't know if the package I got spoiled during shipping or what happened. I just tossed them out.
TASTE: UNKNOWN

Soft Flour Cakes
According to my Google research, this is supposed to taste like a Rice Krispie Treat. Um, No. This had zero flavor and wasn’t very soft. It actually got stuck in my teeth. Only good thing about this was the lone raisin. I wouldn’t eat this again.
TASTE: 3/10

Jin Jin Mango Coconut Jelly
This looked like opaque Jello. Sort of tasted like it too, and had bits of fruit in it. I couldn’t tell if the bits were mango or coconut, maybe both. Very soft on the teeth.
TASTE: 9/10

Crunchoco cookie
Take Cocoa Puffs, crush them and somehow make the crumbs into a cookie, then put slivers of almonds on top. You now have this cookie. I loved this, but the downfall is that it’s VERY crumbly. I had to eat this over the cardboard box to avoid dropping any crumbs and Chase licking them up… Dogs can’t have chocolate. One of my faves in the box.
TASTE: 10/10

Purple Yam Cake
I had something in this flavor in my Snakku box. However, while that one was soft like a Twinkie cake, this was made from crispy chow mein noodles (which I love), Liquid sugar and purple yam. This was delicious and my top favorite item in the box.
TASTE: 10/10

Nougat bar
We had something like this in one of the previous Munchpaks. To me, this had more of a icing/fondant texture than nougat. When I think nougat, I think the stuff inside a Snickers or Milky Way bar, not stuff like this. Very chewy and sweet.
TASTE: 8/10

Assorted chewy candies
Various sizes of chewy candies. These were harder than the Hi-Chews I’m used to. There were two small round ones. They tasted like chocolate, but these are actually caramels. These are a bit deceiving, as they seem to be hard to the touch, but they are chewy.
TASTE: 7/10

Taiwanese Rice Crackers
Quite hard and crunchy. Since there were two packs of these, Mama Melissa and I each tried one. She said they tasted like heavily buttered popcorn cakes to her, while I detected a hint of soy sauce. Either way, I liked these a LOT.
TASTE: 9.5/10

Prince crunchy noodles
This was just broken up ramen with the seasoning on it. It was quite interesting. I detected the chicken flavor of ramen, but yet, it had the ‘potato-ey’ taste of Pringles chips. There were also dried spring onions on this, or as I know them, ‘scallions’ which gave it a slight egg roll flavor. I liked these a lot actually.
TASTE: 9/10

Taiwan loose tea
I don’t do loose teas. I prefer tea bags. Less mess for me. If/When I try this, I will update this.
TASTE: Unknown at this time.

Pineapple cake
Tasted more like a biscuit with pineapple jelly or filling inside. Very soft and crumbly, but delicious.
TASTE: 8/10

There was also a recipe for Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup by CiCi Li

WHO IS CICI LI?

The recipe for this can be found over on The Disabled Cook. http://thedisabledcook.blogspot.com/2016/05/taiwanese-beef-noodle-soup.html

The biggest problem I see for disabled people (minus any chewing issues) is cooking the a-sha noodles. If cooking is not your strong point, this MAY be an issue. Also, like with most snack foods, actually opening the snacks themselves may be an issue as well. I had to use scissors (or ask Mama Melissa) to open some of the packages.

There are 2 sizes available, the Small Box (at least 7 treats) or the Original Box (at least 16 treats) They are available from Taiwan Treat for $14.99 a month for the Small Box, $25.95 a month for the Original Box.

FINAL THOUGHTS
Great and affordable subscription box for those who love foreign treats!

Chewy Blogger - February 2017

February was our ninth month with Chewy (and Chase's 2nd Birthday!!!), and because Chase had a LOT of treats left from other months and also what we buy for him, I narrowed it down to one product for this month. Let's have a look at what we were sent!

^^what we received -- stick is NOT shown actual size^^

Newman's Own Organics Chicken Hip & Joint Snack Sticks Dog Treats
If you took all the best ingredients for joint pain relief and added the delicious flavor of chicken, you’d end up with Newman's Own Organics Chicken Hip & Joint Snack Sticks Dog Treats. These dog-pleasing treat sticks contain green lipped mussels for their anti-inflammatory power and turmeric, a natural remedy for stiff joints. Glucosamine and chondroitin are found naturally in green lipped mussels, and even more has been added to the recipe to help repair joint tissue and cartilage. Newman’s Own Organics treats are gluten- and grain-free with no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. Your pup is getting only high-quality ingredients in this tasty treat, and you can feel good knowing that Newman’s Own donates 100% of their profits to charity.

Key Benefits
~A soft, everyday treat your dog will love with chicken as the very first ingredient
~Contains no wheat, corn, corn gluten meal or soy, and absolutely no artificial flavors colors or preservatives.Great for dogs with common allergens or sensitivities
~Added Glucosamine Hydrochloride and Chondroitin Sulfate in these treats may help support hip and joint health
~Green Lipped Mussels used in treats are sourced from New Zealand.
~You'll feel great rewarding your dog with this treat knowing it can benefit their overall hip and joint health

As I've said before, Chase is a poultry dog. He will scarf down the chicken and turkey treats we give him with no hesitation.
He's also a Chihuahua mix (Going by pics, he's a cheagle), so the vets we've taken him to have already told us he will have joint issues when he gets older.
So, trying to stay pro-active about that, when I saw these as an offer in February, I immediately put my request in for a bag.
He likes these, but NOT as much as the the Le Pooch Beef Jerky sticks or the the Hill's Science Diet Flexi-Stix Jerky with Real Turkey Dog Treats. On days we give him these, he will eat a little here and there throughout the day.
What I liked the most about these treats is that they are aimed for hip and joint issues in mind, and that's exactly what Chase needs.

As with most treat bags, these treats have the ‘Ziploc’ style seal, and if not lined up properly, may not seal tightly, or in this case, the bag tore completely UNDER the Ziploc Seal. This is the MAIN issue I see disabled people having with these treats. However, The plus side to ordering from chewy.com is they deliver right to your door. For someone disabled, who maybe doesn't drive or relies on public transportation, this is completely helpful.

The Newman's Own Organics Snack Sticks Dog Treats are available at chewy.com in Lamb, Chicken, and Salmon flavors. Please click the link above to see pricing.

FINAL THOUGHTS
I made another great selection in February! Chase loves his goodies from Chewy.com! He gets so excited when the 'blue box' arrives each month!

True Chews Premium Grillers
True Chews is dedicated to providing your dog with only 100% natural treats which are proudly made right here in the USA. All of their treats are made with 100% farm-raised protein and contain no artificial flavors, preservatives, or animal by-products. Key Benefits
~Made with real chicken
~Slow-roasted for a freshly grilled taste
~Easy to tear for treating convenience
~Convenient re-sealable bags for freshness
~No grains, corn, wheat, soy, artificial flavors or fillers

Chase is a poultry dog. He will scarf down the chicken and turkey treats we give him with no hesitation. So when I saw these as an offer in January, I immediately put my request in for a bag.
Chase was SO excited when the box showed up in January. Once he realized it was a chicken treat, his excitement increased. He was bouncing from chair to chair, doing his 'excited' bark.
I'll admit, I was skeptical of these, since he really doesn't like BIG treats, gnawing bones excluded. He usually likes his treats is small bite sized portions. But these he likes to hold in his front paws and take bites off of them. It's actually quite adorable to watch!
He actually came back wanting another one right after finishing the first one we gave him. Usually, Chase doesn't do that.

What I liked the most about these treats is that they are made with 100% meat. I feel good about giving Chase as many of these as he wants, because he's getting the protein he needs for his doggie muscles to stay strong.

As with most treat bags, these treats have the ‘Ziploc’ style seal, and if not lined up properly, may not seal tightly. This is the MAIN issue I see disabled people having with these treats. Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets Lite Snackers
Great for managing pet obesity or giving as a healthy snack with any diet, Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets Lite Snackers are the perfect low calorie, low fat, high fiber treat that helps clean teeth and freshen breath. They're backed by extensive testing and are specially formulated to delivery great benefits.

Key Benefits
~Overweight pets like treats too! Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets Lite Snackers are the perfect treat for your pup who's watching their weight.
~They have the oven-baked crunch all dogs love and the chicken flavor they crave.
~There's only 15 calories per biscuit and they're low in fat, so you can still reward your pup.
~High in fiber, they'll also help to clean teeth and freshen breath all while being extremely palatable.
~Made in the USA!

Okay, so Chase is not overweight by ANY means. The vet says he's right in his 'ideal' weight bracket, which is surprising with all the table food he gets (I tend to keep any table food *I* give him to the meats, because I KNOW meats are fine for him to have) But I digress...
I selected the Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets Lite Snackers in December, because it was chicken-based, and Chase is ALL about his poultry. They were also the size of the biscuits he had as a puppy, and he's really not much bigger than he was then!
He LOVES these biscuits! These are his 2nd favorite biscuits next to ALPO Variety Snaps Little Bites Dog Treats. He will eat the Alpo ones first, then these are second. These don't even make mid-afternoon most days.

As with most treat bags, these biscuits have the ‘Ziploc’ style seal, and if not lined up properly, may not seal tightly. This is the MAIN issue I see disabled people having with these treats. ^^what we received^^

Hill's Ideal Balance Soft-Baked Naturals with Chicken & Carrots Dog Treats
Hill's Ideal Balance Soft-Baked Naturals with Chicken & Carrots are delicious, natural dog treats with real chicken to help maintain lean muscle. Grain-free with no corn, wheat, soy, added artificial preservatives, colors or flavors, these treats are the perfect complement to Ideal Balance dry and canned dog foods.

Key Benefits
~Natural dog treats with real chicken to help maintain lean muscle
~All natural, real chicken is the #1 ingredient,
~Recommended for adult dogs
~Grain free with NO corn, wheat, soy, added artificial preservatives, colors or flavors
~These treats are the perfect complement to Ideal Balance dry and canned dog foods

Chase loves chicken (and turkey), but with these having carrots in them, I was a little leery. It seems like a chore to get Chase to eat veggies. He goes through spells. Some days, he'll eat them; other days, he'll leave them.
But The chicken flavor disguises the carrot just enough that Chase eats them every time we give him some. He scarfs them down within minutes and even licks the crumbs off the floor!
What I like about these treats is the size. They are the perfect size for his little mouth!

Wellness CORE Grain-Free Marrow Roasts Hearty Beef Recipe Dog Treats
Wellness CORE Grain-Free Marrow Roasts Hearty Beef Recipe Dog Treats are a great tasty snack. The crunchy biscuits are baked with real marrow centers. These tasty and tantalizing treats have a delicious center that’s packed with vitamins and minerals. Pups can’t keep their paws off of them!

Key Benefits
~All natural ingredients with no wheat, wheat-gluten, corn, soy, artificial colors or flavors
~Treats are high in iron, calcium, zinc, Vitamins A for optimal health
~Made from real beef and no by products
~Quality assured and made from finest globally-sourced ingredients
~Only 5 calories per a treat

Chase isn't crazy about beef normally. He will eat it now and then, but he likes his chicken and turkey better.
However, he does like these treats. We do have to break them up for him, since he has a smaller mouth, but he will eat them once they are broken into pieces.
What I like about these treats is the fact that they ARE 'perforated' for easy breaking. This makes it easier to break for smaller mouths or to use as 'training rewards' for bigger dogs. They snap off with minimal pressure, so even those with limited hand/arm strength will be able to break them.

As with most treat bags, these both have the ‘Ziploc’ style seals, and if not lined up properly, may not seal tightly. This is the MAIN issue I see disabled people having with these bags.
